My acquaintanceship with Børge Birch and his family was, unfortunately not so long because I first got to know them thru my husband around 12 years ago, but since then we have enjoyed visiting the Galerie on Admiralgade 25 and faithfully attended the grand opening of every exhibit. Moreover, Børge always made us quite comfortable and we had cozy little chats with him, enjoyed the exhibits and learned more and more each time to enjoy modern art.
Indeed, now and then, we also purchased some beautiful paintings and sculptures. Gunnar Møller, one of the more recent artists we fell for, painted and produced some large, magnificent pictures. We just had to own one - and others.
Børge who was always in fine fettle and anxious to give immediate service in finding the proper pictures, faithfully came several times to our home delivering pictures by Gunnar Møller. We enjoyed cozy times together over an "improvised lunch" and a delightful chat about art. However it was difficult to find the proper place. The task was not so easy. The only place where there was space was in our white, Louis Seize - dining room - antique with nothing but old pictures. But we succeeded.
We saw the picture while visiting Børge's home on Strandvejen in Skovshoved, and of a sudden I exclaimed, "there , indeed it is hanging", and, impulsive as Børge was, he said, "then you must have it". We are now the happy owners of, "Udsigt - Opstigen - Vejen hjem", and we are daily gladden and delighted by it and remember Børge with great appreciation.
The artist, who passed well before his time, is also not forgotten. Let me conclude with Børge's beautiful words about Gunnar Møller at the latter's exhibit in 1984 called: "The Elements".

Are to be a welcome to a new, young painter at Galerie Birch.
It is not daily fare for our over-particular guests to have to deside on, in our eyes, a newcomer's potential. He is not totally unknown, but let Galerie Birch be the place which gets him to break the artistic soundbarrier and make him the great painter, which will place him in the status his very great talent entitles him to occupy.
