At one of the many time points when we visited Galerie Birch, I saw a very exciting Tabuchi relief. It had been sold to a prominent actor, but now was returned. Two counterparts had been made and the other one is hanging at the American Express Bank.
Børge tried several times to sell them the other one, but they apparently could not "afford" it (the relief was plated or coated with pure platinum gold).
Just as we arrived that day a picturehanging was to be arranged in connection with the exhibition of Soulages' art work. The Tabuchi relief is standing on the windowledge which is well sunk into the groundfloor level. Børge had to have four men to lift up the relief and the same size crew in order to get it back. He mentioned that he had now been up against that in connection with four exhibitions, 4 times, mind you!
Impulsive as Børge is, you know, he looked at me -- at the Tabuchi, and back at me again. "This is really just the thing for you, Winnie. You, by Jove, are going to get this relief at an extra bargain price". Børge looked at the four men who staggered about in the moving of it and then said that their payment would transpire in English pounds corresponding to its weight in kilograms. Three quarters of an hour passed as did a good many drinks while arguing about what it weighed. However, the result was, that I got a magnificient piece of art which we otherwise were not of a mind to purchase, and which we, every day, enjoy in our home with great pleasure.
