I recall Børge and Galerie Birch as a gay and joyous touch in our otherwise very hurry-scurry world.
I remember particularly once after opening hours we sat discuss¬ing our many art experiences when my eye caught sight of this enormous safe in the corner. I had often thought about the tremendous treasuries of art which might be stored away in there. I was greatly surprised when I saw on top of the safe two brown, chubby bottles of Faxes draught beer, 100 crowns and a piece of paper. I turned inquiringly toward Børge, who explained, "Each evening before I go to home, I always place one hundred crowns, 2 beers and a note with the brief message:
"Dear Burglar,
There is not more cash money here other than this 100 crowns, but do sit down, relax and have yourself a couple of beers."
That must have served its purpose, for even if the beers disappeared a couple of times, never was one single painting stolen.
