Børge Birch´s good friend tells:

How I met Børge, and the subsequent fine friendship which I was privileged to have with him, all began back in 1985, when Børge and Karie decided to move from Dragør to Skovshoved. Børge buys my old house on Strandvejen 316, at an, to his thinking, unreasonably high sum of money. So, seemingly, Børge has decided to get his money back again.Hardly had they moved in when Børge got in touch with me, "quite coincidentally" about a detail concerning the house, which I had owned alright, but had not lived in for years. An invitation, a fine catalogue on a Carl Henning Pedersen exhibition, soon was dropped at our door. Everyone who knows Børge is aware of what that involves. Before long a yellow bird by Carl Henning Pedersen gets hung upon the wall.

Our appetite for Cobra - art was thereby awakened and we were indeed incredibly fortunate. We got the opportunity to buy the "last picture". I bought shortly thereafter a red bird as well, from an acquaintance, for I just had to have it and proudly show it to Børge. Børge who entertains the thought that art ought to be bought from him, is, to be sure, dissatisfied with my having dealt elsewhere, and quickly comes up with yet another Carl Henning Pedersen, this time a somewhat older one of a better quality.

So our conversation ran more or less like this, "My friend, see, this is a masterpiece, less than this does you disservice, and do you know what, we will just trade - two birds for one masterpiece". Børge, naturally, gets his will, and the birds exit.

It became a very warm friendship, -farm on the Island Læsø with delightfull holiday experiences, and naturally, we bought and traded many paintings and sculptures with each other. It could not have been finer.
