Yoshio Nakajima, called the ”Son of the Sun”, was born some hundred kilometres outside Tokyo in December 1940. He already had his debut at the age of 12, but he took an education and studied art in Tokyo.
He was cosmopolitan and politically orientated, which gave him contact with the contemporary movements in the international art environment. In this way he cofounded Fluxus Skandinavia and Bauhaus Situationists, where he meets amongst others, Jørgen Nash and thus tie a connection to Drakabygget and Sweden.
Yoshio Nakajima has been co-organizer at more than 500 happenings with amongst others, Yoko Ono, John Cage, Robert Rauchenberg and Jørgen Nash. As a 20 year old he exhibited with Asger Jorn. Jorn was so enthusiastic about the young Japanese that he contrived that Nakajima today is represented in this country on Silkeborg, Herning and Aarhus Art Museums.
In these days spends the now 66 year old Yoshio Nakajima, half of the year in Japan, where he has his own Art Museum and at the same time, functions as both professor and principal at the Art Academy in Saitama, the other half of the year he lives in Sweden. Yoshio has exhibited amongst other places in Amsterdam, Antwerp, Paris, London and Moscow and is represented in over 35 art museums all over the world.
Yoshio Nakajima´s artwork is imaginative, poetic, romantic and forceful.
One can enjoy his artwork for a long time and study his different symbols and lines. The themes are all from Scandinavia. Happiness, spring, sun, summer, animals and humans.
