Biography
Mogens Andersen was after the Second World War, one of the pioneers in Danish abstract art. Andersen was situated in Paris in many years after the war, where he found inspiration with Paul Cézanne, Henri Matisse and Georges Braque. He quickly settled down in the Parisian art environment and soon got a lot of friends amongst others Pierre Soulages whose artwork Mogens Andersen have many common features with. In 1964 he returned to Denmark.
Mogens Andersen circled the last 30 years around one picturesque track; a painting, where the dark ornamental motif or “substance” are formed by the brushes rhythmic track across the light and slightly glazed picturesque base. The paintings are often characterized by the black and dark complex drawing. The artist´s intriguing of the light led him paradoxical to the black and dark-blue colour. He used the dark complex drawing to harness and amplify the light quality in his sparse added colours.
