Education
In 1907, the young Bram entered into service as an apprentice in the painting and interior decorating company of Schaijk & Kramers.
Biography
Birthname was Abraham Gerardus van Velde, but he started very early to use the name "Bram van Velde"
He was encouraged in his art by the co-owner Eduard H. Kramers and his son Wijnand, who were appreciators and collectors of art, and these two would become Bram van Velde's artistic patrons until around 1934. Kramers gave van Velde a stipend and he traveled around to meet other artists. His meeting with expressionist artists and the exposure of contemporary art to him, revolutionized his work and he was greatly influenced by artists such as Picasso & Matisse and in 1927 he had his first exhibition.
Van Velde was quickly known for an intensely colored and geometric semi-representational painting style somewhere between expressionism and surrealism and achieved critical success followed by many exhibitions and rewards.
He is one of Holland's best known modern artist. His works are on display in many of the most prestigious Museums in the world.
