Born 1942 in Copenhagen – died 2007
Self-taught painter
Bjørn had his debut on ”Kunstnernes Efterårsudstilling” in 1968.
From the very start has his picture-world been rich: Shapes and figures are being mixed and demands active sympathy from the beholder. Things and individuals, that without a doubt is attached to his childhood, are brought together in a imaginative, poetic and surrealistic sign language, which appeals to the imagination. Since his breakthrough on FIAC in 1983, he has been considered an extension of COBRA, not least inspired by Corneille whom has expressed his admiration for the Danish artist. Bjørn settled in Vence, France in the late 80´ties to the late 90´ties. His paintings took a more international twist and he meets other artists like John Christoforou, who became his friend.
Bjørn T. Hansen has developed the motif and his approach to work, for example he poach on the American popular culture and snapped famous icon figures like Dick Tracy, Popeye and Mickey Mouse and sampled them with front covers from old detective novels and cartoon albums, all together in a big dynamic collage’s universe, filled with unexpected coincidences, subtle points and secret stories.
